Program notes:

The first version of Castlepoint was completed in May 2005. This was to be my last piece before I temporarily stopped composing to study for doctoral exams. The plan was to focus all my attention to my studies.

After Castlepoint was completed and I began near hibernation, I realized that something was missing from the piece. Knee-deep in analysis of 20th century masterworks, I had to patiently wait until I was done with my exams (a promise I had made to my very patient girlfriend-now-wife). For two months, the waiting developed into an unscratchable itch, like an itch in the middle of a leg cast. Finally, after I took my exams, I drove directly home and spent the next 10+ hours complete rewriting the piece.

The title Castlepoint comes from the combination of the street used to live on (Castle Heights) and counterpoint. Castlepoint is also an anagram of "Inspect Alto", but that is just a coincidence.
